Candidates with a CRS score of 516 or higher received an Invitation to Apply (ITA), provided they had submitted their Express Entry profile before the tie-breaking date and time if multiple candidates shared the minimum score.
What is the Canadian Experience Class (CEC)?
The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is one of three federal immigration programs managed thru the Express Entry system in Canada.
The program is for experienced foreign workers who have acquired eligible work experience in Canada and want to become permanent residents. Canadian work experience often puts applicants in a good position to integrate into the labor market and Canadian society.
Who is Eligible to Apply for the Canadian Experience Class?
- Build at least a year of skilled work experience in Canada in the required eligibility period.
- Meet the minimum language requirements for the occupation.
- Desire to reside outside of the Province of Quebec.
- Meet all the Express Entry eligibility criteria applicable to you.
Candidates must first create an Express Entry profile and obtain a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score to be eligible for an invitation to apply.
Why CRS Score Did Not Move Below 516
The minimum CRS score was unchanged at 516 for this draw, the same cutoff that was applied in the previous Canadian Experience Class draw that was held on July 21, 2026. There’s ongoing competition for candidates with Canadian work experience, and the selection score has stayed the same in recent CEC invitation rounds.
Provincial nomination does not give Canadian Experience Class candidates an automatic additional 600 CRS points as is the case with Provincial Nominee Program draws. This leads to generally lower CRS cut-off scores in CEC draws compared to those in PNP-specific invitation rounds.
What Happens After I Get an Invitation?
If you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), you can start preparing your permanent residence application by:
- Acceptance of the Invitation to Apply.
- Filling out the online permanent residence request.
- Uploading of all the necessary supporting documents.
- Undergoing medical examinations and providing biometrics if needed.
- IRCC criminality and security screening.
Canadian permanent resident status may be granted to applicants who satisfy all federal requirements.
Express Entry Still Has Regular Rounds of Invitations
This August 5 draw comes a day after an August 4 Provincial Nominee Program draw that saw 507 candidates receive invitations. Together, these invitation rounds showcase IRCC’s ongoing use of targeted Express Entry draws to support Canada’s economic immigration targets. In 2026, IRCC has continued to invite applicants thru various Express Entry categories including:
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
- French Language Proficiency
This approach allows Canada to respond to labor market needs while maintaining federal and provincial immigration priorities.
