New Brunswick Selects 678 In-Demand Workers for Provincial Immigration

New Brunswick has selected 678 workers

in priority occupational groups through several provincial immigration selections held between August 10 and September 18, 2026. The selections were conducted through the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).

The latest selections targeted workers in areas including construction, education and social services, manufacturing, professional and information technology occupations, sales and services, transportation, and other trades.

New Brunswick Issues 678 Invitations and Selections

Between August 10 and September 18, New Brunswick conducted six separate immigration selections. Three selections were held under the NBPNP, while another three were conducted through the Atlantic Immigration Program.

Under the NBPNP, candidates were selected through:

  • New Brunswick Skilled Worker Stream;
  • New Brunswick Express Entry Stream; and
  • New Brunswick Strategic Initiative Stream.

A total of 550 invitations were issued through these three NBPNP streams. The province also selected 128 applications through the Atlantic Immigration Program, bringing the total to 678.

  • Other trades

The specific occupational categories varied slightly between the different streams and selections.

New Brunswick Graduates Pathway
This pathway is intended for eligible international graduates of qualifying New Brunswick study programs. Candidates generally need to be working full-time for an eligible New Brunswick employer or have accepted an eligible full-time position.

102 Invitations Through New Brunswick Express Entry

On September 17, 2026, New Brunswick issued 102 invitations through the Employment in New Brunswick pathway under its Express Entry Stream. The selection targeted candidates in:

  • Worked full-time in a TEER 0–3 occupation for a New Brunswick employer during that period.

Candidates must also satisfy the other applicable requirements of the provincial stream.

251 Invitations Through the Strategic Initiative Stream

New Brunswick issued 251 invitations on September 11, 2026, through two pathways under the Strategic Initiative Stream:

  • Francophone Workers in New Brunswick
  • New Brunswick Francophone Priorities

The selection targeted candidates across the province’s priority occupational categories, including construction, education and social services, manufacturing, professional and IT, sales and services, transportation and other trades.

Francophone Workers in New Brunswick

Applicants may need to have lived in New Brunswick for at least six months or have received their employment opportunity through an applicable recruitment initiative.

New Brunswick Francophone Priorities
This pathway targets French-speaking foreign nationals with qualifying connections to New Brunswick. Potential candidates can include eligible New Brunswick Francophone graduates and individuals invited by Immigration New Brunswick.

128 Selections Through the Atlantic Immigration Program

New Brunswick also conducted three selections through the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) between August 10 and September 10. A total of 128 applications were selected. The breakdown was:

The occupational categories included construction, education and social and community services, manufacturing, other trades, professional and IT, sales and services, and transportation.

What Is the Atlantic Immigration Program?

The Atlantic Immigration Program is an employer-led Canadian permanent residence pathway for eligible foreign nationals who receive a qualifying job offer from a designated employer in one of Canada’s four Atlantic provinces. The participating provinces are:

  • New Brunswick;
  • Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • Nova Scotia; and
  • Prince Edward Island.

Candidates must meet the applicable requirements relating to factors such as language, education, work experience and settlement funds. The employer and provincial endorsement process are also important components of the program.

What Is the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program?

The New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program allows the province to nominate eligible candidates who have the skills, education and experience needed to contribute to the provincial economy. The Provincial Nominee Program operates alongside Canada’s federal immigration system, with individual provinces establishing their own selection requirements and priorities.

New Brunswick uses different streams and pathways to target candidates according to provincial labour-market needs and immigration priorities.

What Happens After Receiving an Invitation?

Candidates selected through the NBPNP can submit their complete provincial nomination application within the applicable deadline.  For AIP candidates, the selected application proceeds through the provincial endorsement process. The general process can include:

Step 1: Receive an Invitation or Selection
The candidate is invited through an applicable NBPNP stream or selected for processing under the AIP.

Step 2: Prepare the Required Documents
Applicants must provide documents supporting their identity, education, employment, work experience, language ability and other applicable requirements.

Step 3: Submit the Provincial Application
The candidate submits the required application within the applicable deadline.

Step 4: Provincial Assessment
New Brunswick reviews the application or endorsement request against the relevant program requirements

Step 5: Receive a Nomination or Endorsement
Successful NBPNP applicants may receive a provincial nomination.  Successful AIP applicants receive the applicable provincial endorsement required to proceed with the federal permanent residence application.

Step 6: Apply for Canadian Permanent Residence
After receiving a nomination or endorsement, eligible applicants can proceed with the relevant federal permanent residence process.  Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducts the applicable federal assessment and admissibility checks.

Can Selected Workers Apply for a Work Permit?

In certain circumstances, workers selected through these programs may have options to obtain or maintain Canadian work authorization. For example, workers endorsed through the AIP may be eligible to apply for an employer-specific work permit, subject to the applicable federal requirements.

Provincial nominees may also be eligible for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) after submitting their permanent residence application if they meet the federal requirements. A temporary federal measure introduced in June 2026 allows certain eligible base PNP applicants to apply for a BOWP before receiving an Acknowledgement of Receipt for their permanent residence application.

New Brunswick Continues to Focus on Priority Occupations

The latest selections show New Brunswick’s continued focus on occupations connected to provincial labour-market priorities. Construction, healthcare and social services, manufacturing, transportation, professional occupations and trades all feature prominently across the latest selection rounds.

However, working in one of these occupational categories does not automatically guarantee an invitation or nomination. Candidates must satisfy the requirements of the specific stream and pathway through which they are applying.

Changes to New Brunswick's Immigration Programs
New Brunswick has made several changes to its immigration pathways during 2026. The province also updated its Atlantic Immigration Program restrictions in September. Effective September 14, 2026, New Brunswick removed the previous AIP restriction covering candidates working in the Accommodation and Food Services sector (NAICS 72).

However, several specific occupations remain restricted, including certain retail, food-service management, sales, buyer and fish-processing occupations. Applicants should therefore verify the current occupational restrictions before pursuing an AIP opportunity.

What Does the Latest Selection Mean for Foreign Workers?

The latest New Brunswick selections provide immigration opportunities for eligible workers whose occupations, employment situations and other qualifications align with the province’s current priorities. The selections also show that New Brunswick is using several immigration pathways rather than relying on a single stream. Potential applicants may need to consider:

  • Their occupation and NOC;
  • Current employment;
  • Canadian work experience;
  • New Brunswick connection;
  • Language ability;
  • Education;
  • Express Entry profile;
  • Employer eligibility; and
  • Whether their occupation is currently subject to restrictions.
