Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released its latest temporary residence processing time estimates

For the countries highlighted in this update, study permit processing times remained unchanged from the previous report. These updates help prospective applicants better plan their immigration timelines.

Understanding IRCC Processing Times

IRCC’s published processing times are estimates, not guaranteed timelines. Actual processing times can vary depending on several factors, including:

  • Application volume.
  • Completeness of the application.
  • Background, security, and medical checks.
  • Requests for additional documents.
  • IRCC’s operational capacity.

Applicants should ensure their applications are complete and accurate to help avoid unnecessary delays.

IRCC Service Standards

For reference, IRCC has established service standards for processing many temporary residence applications. These standards represent the department’s internal processing goals under normal operating conditions and are separate from the published processing time estimates. Examples include:

  • Work permits submitted inside Canada: 120 days
  • Work permits submitted outside Canada: 60 days
  • Study permits submitted inside Canada: 120 days
  • Study permits submitted outside Canada: 60 days
  • Visitor visas submitted outside Canada: 14 days
  • Super Visas: 112 days

Meeting a service standard is not guaranteed, and actual processing times may differ based on individual circumstances.

What Applicants Should Do Next

If you are planning to apply for a Canadian work permit, study permit, visitor visa, or Super Visa, consider the following steps:

  • Check the latest IRCC processing times before applying.
  • Ensure all required documents are complete and accurate.
  • Respond promptly to any IRCC requests for additional information.
  • Submit your application as early as possible.
  • Monitor future IRCC processing time updates, as estimates are reviewed regularly.

IRCC updates its processing time estimates frequently. Applicants should check the latest figures before submitting an application or making travel or employment plans, as processing times may change based on application volumes and operational requirements.
